Use your freedom to help!
At this very moment there are hundreds of monks imprisoned for having stood up for their freedom. Some of them have even given their lives as a sacrifice in this battle. Birma, 2007; there is a non-violent protest against the totalitarian military regime being repressed bloodily by the army. The message of the people of Birma is clear; they demand democracy and freedom of speech. In other words, they claim the exact same rights that have become common to us.
At this very moment, the international community is practically silent. There is nearly no sign of solidarity for the sovereign people of Birma. Now is the time you can change this. By use of your apparent rights; by use of your voice, by use of your freedom.
The organisation Students for Birma wants to make this silence come to a halt. You can be a part of this, by joining us in our peaceful manifestation on the Museum Square in Amsterdam on the Friday 12th of October. We have no other cause than to express our solidarity for the people of Birma, especially the brave students and monks. This, in a positive and festive way. Alongside music and festivities we will use our freedom to help. Only your presence in large number will make our statement clear; we can and will not accept this.
On the 12th of October we want the world to finally open their eyes and stand up against this injustice. We want it to start then, and let this be an opportunity for the world to follow. Let us for once not stand up for our own rights, but for the rights of humanity.
